    This product is wonderful. I've been in the hospital several times in the past couple of years due to seizures and couldn't walk or even wake up for days and the Pure Wick was used. I felt so much better when I realized I had this. I told the nurse I had to pee and she said go ahead because you have a catheter. My first thought was oh no it's going to hurt when I move around or something pulls on it , but she explained about the new kind of catheter for women. I'm not scared of getting a catheter any more! Thanks to the inventor for bringing it to us ! God bless you all ! 🥰

    I enjoyed your presentation. I have used the system for several years with my mother. I first saw the system used in a NYC hospital in around 2018. I said if they can use it there, someone must be making it for home use. I was so glad when I found the unit. I originally had the old docket. I have since upgraded to the smaller unit. I am still surprised that many doctors dealing with elderly patients are still unfamiliar with the system. As a caregiver and daughter I love the system. I wash my tubing and bucket daily I think it helps extend the life of those items. PS the privacy sleeves should be included in the bucket/tube replacement pack. Thanks for sharing.

    Age brings about things we cannot deny nor prevent or should be embarrassed about. However, this force of nature should give an understanding to older men choosing to be with younger women. Age tends to disproportionately make women less intimate beings than men. Therefore, the men should feel comfortable making life decisions in order to continue feeling fulfilled in life without harsh judgment.

    I used this during a hospital stay back in April and it definitely dried out my skin. The gauze stuck to my skin and it was painful removing it. They were keeping the wall suction going constantly though, so I'm wondering if having the small machine like this would be more beneficial by allowing the machine to be turned off when not needed. I'm expecting multiple surgeries in the near future and it's impossible for me to use a catheter because of a huge stone in my bladder.

    • @kathleenbabcock9009
      @kathleenbabcock9009 Год назад

      I detach the tubing first, let the hose drain, then turn off the machine. Then I go to the bathroom, and gently remove the catheter. Much better than trying to fight the suction against your skin. I also wear diapers, a pad and then a thick cloth pad over the pad in the diaper. All of this keeps wet away from me and my bed and softens the feel of the cathether. I just have to deal with the smell, still getting the hang of it. I had this in the hospital after a knee replacement. I could not believe I knew nothing of this device after suffering for 3 years with a leaking bladder. So glad I got the chance to use it so I could get it at home.

    • @DebiB62
      @DebiB62 Год назад

      @@kathleenbabcock9009 My original post was made a year ago. I now have a Purewick at home. Unfortunately the home version doesn't have variable suction like at the hospital, so you're stuck with a very low suction rate whether you like it or not. Higher suction rates lend to drying out your skin and having the catheter stick to you; but if you pee too fast the suction rate can't keep up and you pee on yourself. At the hospital I figured out that I could keep the suction at 100% and just keep the catheter in place when I need to pee. Then I make sort of a little pouch/pocket situation with my underwear or the chux where the catheter is still near where I need it in case I have to access it quickly, but it's not directly touching my skin. So there's no chance of it drying my skin out. The suction at home is so low that it never dries me out. Unfortunately keeping it in place means my skin stays wet a lot. To keep from having bacteria take over, ever so often I'll spray the catheter with hydrogen peroxide. It seems to help.

    What is the cost

    • @mslnt1
      @mslnt1 2 года назад

      If you order directly from the site $535-$595 which cokes with the 30 catheters and container and tubing. However afterwards you have to buy catheters which can averages between $200-$400 depending on where you get it from. The tubing and canister should be replaced every 60 days and cost about $50 for for set.

    Great system purchased it for my mom who's bedridden but wish the catheters weren't so expensive or covered by Medicare/insurance. $200 for 30 catheters that don't last a full month is ridiculous 🙄 😑 😒

      Although NOT recommended by the manufacturer, I have read that some users were washing and re-using the catheters.

    Too expensive and I found it painful. It sits inside both labia and down past the vagina. It lies on the clitoral hood at the top of the labia minora, then over the urethra and vagina. I had them slip into my vagina but worst is the suction used at the hospital on the clitoral hood. Pulling on the entire labia. When they slipped in my vagina major irritation with suction and now I have a Bartholin Cyst

    I have had this device for 6 months and it works "sometimes". It's always necessary to wear a night time adult diaper, and have a bed pad to protect bedding.
    It's very expensive,(~$600 for starter unit and wicks).
    Wicks cost $195 for 30 so basically $195/month.
    Sometimes the wicks are not manufactured properly and I will
    have to remove one and replace with another, at close to $7 a piece that's expensive!
    The collection vessel and tubing need to be replaced frequently because they stop suctioning well (more than every 60 days as the manufacturer suggests) even with daily proper cleaning and cost $60 each time you replace.
    So add it up, beyond you initial investment you're paying about $300/month to use (not including the costs of adult diapers and bed protection).
    BD has cornered the market on this device and recently won a $28M lawsuit on a company that tried to copy the patent.

    There are really no alternatives, yet.
    Since Insurance and Medicare do not cover these costs, I would suggest they are milking every penny they can until there is true competition.
